At The Work Force,

education and job training go hand-in-hand, and both require the investment of a community of caring adults.

To prepare students to compete in an increasingly specialized and rapidly changing economy, The Work Force partners with the local employer community to provide youth with a series of exploratory jobs and specialized internships that build resumes, boost workplace skills, and expose participants to diverse career options.

These work experiences provide teens with flexible opportunities to broaden their understanding of work and to develop transferable job skills. Our Employer-Mentors offer more than supervision, but rather provide our youth with mentoring and guidance that comes from taking a personal interest in the student’s future.

the Employment Component is Comprised of:

  • Exploratory Jobs: Two 14-week job cycles for 10th through 12th graders, with placements in office, childcare, and customer service;

  • Internships: Three 8-week internship cycles for 11th through 12th grade with a focus on Healthcare, Technology, and Hospitality;

  • Selected public and private sector “employer-mentors” who guide students through their placements, give them exposure to the workings of their organization and field, and support their post-secondary aspirations; and

  • Workshops and individual training on job skills, career options, and core workplace competencies.

Current Employer-Mentors:

The Work Force Youth Program maintains partnerships – a “conspiracy of nurturance” – with a broad range of local businesses, organizations, and institutions in both the public and private sectors. Placements are favored in which our participants are challenged to cultivate new skills, and are exposed to a variety of organizational activity and job functions.

The Work Force Youth Program seeks supervisors who are committed to mentoring young people and providing them with a quality work experience. We want employer-mentors who care about the growth and well being of our teens as much as we do.
